SYCSA relies on over 50 volunteers to help in the running of the Association. We are always happy to get offers of help and enquiries from newcomers.

If you are considering volunteering, here is some information for you to consider:

  • All volunteers are unpaid.
  • All volunteers must be registered with the Association by the Saturday Club manager.
  • All regular volunteers are DBS checked at Enhanced Disclosure Level at no cost to the volunteer.  This is now applicable for other organisations e.g Scouts, /guides etc.
  • All regular volunteers attend a refresher session at the start of the year to make sure they are up to date with the operating instructions. This may be caried out individually if necessary.
  • Parent volunteers who help onshore need to complete a Self Declaration form for their DBS check.

As a registered volunteer you can be:

Help in the galley
Saturday Club helper
help rig
help launch/recover
First Aider

Competent Helm
Instructor (AI, DI, SI)
Race Officer

Driver (Level 2 upwards) Instructor

Whether you are a volunteer, a helper or a interested parent you are welcome to help run the Association by joining the Committee at our annual AGM. To ensure that SYCSA’s volunteers have appropriate training our volunteers are invited to attend an annual Refresher day.

To ensure that SYCSA has enough volunteers with RYA qualifications we will provide financial support where possible for volunteers to attend recognised courses.

Tidal Experience Week

One of the benefits of being a registered and active volunteer is that you are eligible to apply for the SYCSA Tidal Experience week.
