24th March Wessex Water have closed all of their reservoirs to anyone other than essential Wessex Water Employees until further notice. Please follow government instructions and Stay at home to save lives. Thank you for your understanding.
Welcome to SYCSA, here you will find useful information about the courses we offer, news about what we are doing and something about who we are as a local and friendly association based at Durleigh Reservoir near Bridgwater in Somerset. Please have a look at what we can offer.
Who we are – we are a volunteer led association and a Royal Yachting Association (RYA) teaching establishment with both Championship and Sailability Foundation status. We give up our time and energy to deliver courses and sessions for the adults and children. We are a charitable incorporated organisation and we are non-profit making.
What we do – we pride ourselves on youth development and recreation incorporating sailing skills. This can hopefully lead to an individual realising their potential in order for them to live healthy and fulfilling lives. We also offer courses for adults. We do this for people mainly in Somerset but not exclusively. We teach sailing according to the RYA National Sailing schemes for adults and youths.
Ages and abilities – we can cater for all ages from six to over seventy including both abled and disabled bodies. Our Sailability status recognises that we can offer opportunities to try and progress in dinghy sailing to those with disabilities.
Notes on the website: if you were expecting to access commonly shared files such as dinghy rigging manuals or other documentation, these have been moved to Google Drive. Please ask a committee member for access. You will need to register with google for a relevant account to access the features.
Here are a few photos of SYCSA in action.
