SYCSA is a non-profit making, charitable organization, run by volunteers. It was founded in the 1970's to teach people from Somerset or beyond to sail.

Our objects are "To provide training and recreational facilities, which promote and encourage the sport of sailing and practises of good seamanship among the people mainly - but not exclusively - of Somerset, for the purpose of advancing their education and in the interests of social welfare within the meaning of the Recreational Charities Act 1958".

In 2011 the RYA awarded us full Volvo Champion Club status to add to our OnBoard gained in 2010.

We are also a RYA Sailability Foundation club.

 

We are based at Durleigh Sailing Club

SYCSA welcomes all ages ( 6- to 70+ ) and abilities (able bodied and disabled).

We teach to the RYA National Sailing scheme

For youngsters:

• Playsail days offer a taste of sailing
• Saturday Club helps beginners to start sailing and improvers to extend their skill

• Saturday Race Club for youngsters who want to learn to race Toppers
• Topper course in July accommodates all abilities
• Sailability Families Open afternoon a chance for disabled sailors to try sailing

For adults:

• Get started by trying a taster sessions
• Ladies only evening have a go at this taster session

then continue to learn and improve your sailing skills through the

• May - October course for beginners to start sailing and improvers to extend their skills
• Level 1/2 September a course for beginners
• Level 3 May -October course for improvers

• Powerboat courses to Level S

For the personal development of active and registered SYCSA volunteers

• Tidal experience week provides a week of sea sailing
• RYA Training courses and qualifications
