On the same day in October 2005
Sian Sedgwick-Wilde (Saturday Club Manager of SYCSA)
and Ian York (Assistant Instructor) were presented with Community
Awards for their voluntary work in the community.
Sian was presented with her RYA Award for service to the Community by HRH Anne the Princess Royal at a RYA awards ceremony in London. It was a great occasion in front of an invited audience.
This citation is given for years of exceptional service to the sailing community in running and developing the Saturday Club. Before she achieved this award, Sian had to be proposed by SYCSA and the nomination approved by the RYA South West and National Committees.
Well done Sian you thoroughly deserve this award.
Ian was presented with his O2 Community award in front of 6 other finalists and their guests, by Peter Erskine the CEO of O2, at a ceremony at the BAFTA building in London .
Ian who is the winner from the Airwave division of O2, was competing against 6 other finalists. After the screening of a short video presentation of each finalists work in the community, the overall winner was announced by Peter Erskine.
This years winner came from the Isle of Man division of O2, so although Ian did not win the national prize, he walked away as a divisional winner with an O2 plaque and certficiate while SYCSA received a most generous cheque for £4,000.
Well done Ian, you are doing a great job in your work with the young sailors.
