At the annual SYCSA
end of season prize giving
- Over 70 young sailors and their guests attended a buffet
lunch prepared in newly installed galley at Durleigh Sailing Club.
- Awards and prizes were presented by Emma Britton, Presenter
of the Morning Show on BBC Radio Somerset
- Pete Branson (Chair of SYCSA) reminded everyone that this
was the 17th Annual Presentation lunch, and marked the 18th successful year
for the Saturday Morning Club's operation.
- He thanked all of the volunteers who made the Club so successfully.
- Volunteers were given gifts to recognise their regular unpaid
commitment in running the Saturday Morning Club.
- He also thanked the parents and volunteers for generously
donating the raffle prizes.
- The Steadman Trophy,
a special award donated by the Steadman family in recognition of SYCSA's help
in the personal development of their daughter Anna. The award for the most
improved newcomer went to Elliot
Pope
- Outstanding achiever
of the year was Joseph
Brown who showed great personal development and improvement and determination
in racing skills, which was recognised in a vote by the SYCSA Instructors.
- During the season over ??80 young sailors were working towards
their RYA Youth Sailing Scheme Stages and National Sailing Scheme Advanced
modules.
- The following were achieved successfully:
- 7 Stage 1
- 5 Stage 2
- 4 Stage 3
- 1 Stage 4
- 2 Intermediate Racing
- 2 Performance Sailing
- 6 young sailors were also awarded SYCSA Certificates
of Achievement for various personal successes over the season
- Over 20 adult sailors also achieved qualifications
on the RYA National Sailing or Powerboat Schemes via SYCSA training courses.
- 17 at Level 1
- 8 at Level 2
- 2 became Assistant Dinghy Instructors
- The Saturday Afternoon Race series winners were:
- First Joseph Bown
- Second James McCleod
- Third Christopher Bartlett
- The new Somerset Square Youth Trophy, which was donated by
Tim Walters in recognition of the efforts made by our young racers was won
by:
- At the end of the 2011 season:
- Luke Robertson was selected for the Intermdiate Topper Squad
- Isobel Berkley was chosen for the Optimist Development Squad.
- Congrtulations also go to Luke Warman who became SYCSA's
second representative in the RYA SW Zone Squads.
- Well done Luke, Izzie and Luke, best of luck for 2012.
