At the annual SYCSA end
of season prize giving
- Over 100 young sailors and their guests attended a buffet
lunch at the Enmore Inn
- Awards and prizes were presented by Paul
Turner Financial Controller of Gerber Juice Company Ltd.
- In his opening remarks on the season, Pete Branson (Chair
of SYCSA) introduced Ron Burdon (President of SYCSA) and welcomed Paul Turner,
pointing out that it was particularly appropriate for Paul to present the
awards since Gerber had been great financial supporters of SYCSA by sponsoring
2 sets of sails in recent years.
- During the season over 70 young sailors were working towards
their RYA Youth Sailing Scheme awards:
- 20 achieved Stage 1
- 12 achieved Stage 2
- 3 achieved Stage 3
- 4 achieved Stage 4 successfully.
- Over the season over 40 adult sailors also
achieved qualifications on the RYA Adult Sailing or Powerboat Schemes via
SYCSA training courses.
- Outstanding achiever of the year was Jack
Baker who reached Stage 4 and was voted by the SYCSA Instructors as the
all round most improved sailor who made most personal progress during the
season.
- The star raffle prize, which was donated by Somerset Local
Direct Food was won by the Bonner
family, seen here being presented with the hamper of food.
