The Saturday Sailing Club

The morning club is for all comers

from 14th April to 27th October inclusive

(Not 28th July and 4th, 11th 18th August)

09.00 to 13.00,
£12 per session.

 

The club began in 1994 with 6 members. Those youngsters have moved on to sail in Club and National events. One of them got into the National Youth Laser squad. They all started with SYCSA @ Durleigh.

Last season over 50 youngsters achieved RYA Young Sailors qualifications through the Saturday Club.

In 2005 the RYA recognized SYCSA's achievements in Youth Sailing, by presenting the RYA award for outstanding work in the Community to Sian Sedgwick-Wilde the Club manager.

  • The club meets every Saturday (except on the dates above),
  • All ages from 6 to 18 years are welcome.
  • At our discretion, we do accept youngsters below 6.
  • If the youngster is 8 or under a parent must stay at the session.
  • Each Saturday, we have up to 40 youngsters on the water.
  • Although we usually get everyone afloat for the whole session, on the odd occasion when a large number of youngsters appears, we do have to limit the on-water time by using on-shore activities.
  • Be early to avoid this disappointment.
  • Youngsters follow the RYA Youth Sailing Scheme through Stages 1, 2, 3 & 4.
  • After Stage 4, youngsters progress to the RYA National Sailing Scheme
  • Life jackets supplied
  • Splash suits are provided if necessary
  • Bargain priced used sailing clothes rail on display each week
  • Wetsuits are advisable in the early and late seasons.
  • Drinks and snacks are available during the morning break.

The afternoon club for advanced sailors (Stage 3 and above)

from 27th April to 20th October inclusive

(Not 21st, 28th July and 4th, 11th 18th or 25th August)

14.00 to 16.30,

£6 per session
This is for sailors who have reached at least RYA Young Sailors Stage 3.
It provides a chance to:

The Race Club for youngsters who want to train and race Toppers

will meet from 14.00 to 16.30 on the afternoons of

The club is open to any youngster who can sail and would like to learn the basics of dinghy racing.

3of the youngsters from this group have been selected to join the RYA Squads in 2012, our sailors are in the Intermediate and Zone Topper squads and the Optimist Development squad.
