SYCSA relies on volunteers to help in the running of the Association.
We are always happy to get offers of help and enquiries from newcomers.
If you are considering volunteering, here is some information for you to consider:
All of SYCSA's volunteers are unpaid.
All of SYCSA's volunteers must be registered with the Association by Siân Sedgwick-Wilde.
All of SYCSA's regular volunteers are CRB checked at Enhanced Disclosure Level at no cost to the volunteer.
Parent volunteers who help onshore e.g. in the galley or with fee collection, or with maintenance need to complete a Self Declaration form for their CRB check.
As a registered volunteer you can be:
- a galley helper
- involved in registering students on a Saturday morning
- a person assisting in any other capacity (e.g. boat maintenance, grass cutting, painting equipment)
- someone who helps with administration (e.g. updating and rewriting forms or brochures)
- a First Aider
- a Race Officer
- a powerboat driver once you have an RYA Powerboat Level 2 qualification
- a powerboat crew member
- in a powerboat as an assistant under instruction
- a "competent helm" through having suitable sailing skills and being assessed by our Principal or Chief Dinghy Instructor
- an Assistant Dinghy Instructor
- a Dinghy Instructor
- an RYA Instructor running a fleet of dinghies
- an RYA Powerboat Instructor running a course
- an RYA Senior Dinghy Instructor running a session or a course
- an RYA Coach
SYCSA also needs helpers onshore to cut grass, repair boats and their equipment or to do other jobs, which arise from time to time.
Whether you are a volunteer, a helper or a interested parent you are welcome to help run the Association by joining the Committee at our annual AGM.
To ensure that SYCSA's volunteers have appropriate training our volunteers are invited to attend an annual Induction day.
To ensure that SYCSA has enough volunteers with RYA qualifications we will provide financial support for volunteers to attend recognised courses.
There is a limit to the amount of resources, hence the Committee will allocate resources according to SYCSA's need.
One of the benefits of being a registered and active volunteer is that you are eligible to apply for:
the SYCSA Tidal Experience week.
