SYCSA encourages it's volunteers to improve their personal sailing skills and gain RYA qualifications.
All of SYCSA's volunteers are unpaid and CRB checked.
To ensure that SYCSA's volunteers have appropriate training our volunteers are invited to attend an annual Induction day.
Once a young sailor has reached RYA Youth Stage 3, they are encouraged to practice their sailing skills on Saturday afternoons.
Once a volunteer reaches an appropriate sailing standard, they will be invited to attend a SYCSA Assistant Instructors course.
To ensure that SYCSA's volunteers have appropriate RYA qualifications we will provide financial support for volunteers to attend recognised courses.
It is usual practice for the Committee to sanction payment of course fees but not accommodation costs for a:
- First aid course
- Short range VHF radio operators course
- Sailability awareness course
- Food hygiene course
- Child Protection Awareness course
- Dinghy Instructor course
- Dinghy Senior Instructor course
- An RYA Powerboat course
- Powerboat Instructor course
- An RYA Club Racing Coach course
- An RYA Coaches course
There is a limit to the amount of resources, hence the Committee will allocate resources according to SYCSA's need.
